Last weekend i crossed something off my bucket list. I don't really have an actual 'bucket list' but i like to think there are things i want to do/see/try before it gets too late. My thing was getting a pedicure. I'm not sure what i didn't like about the idea to begin with, but there was no way i was letting a stranger play with my feet.
A couple of years ago some girlfriends and i went away on a relaxing girls weekend to a hotel that had a nice day spa. They were reading through the spa menu picking out things like they were ordering chinese. I couldn't bring myself to even set foot inside the place (no pun intended).
Recently a new nail salon had opended in the Mall here, boasting big massage chairs and foot spas all in a row - the attraction now was i could drag the girls with me and even have a hand to hold if need be ;) I took my 2 best friends, we booked weeks in advance and i had too long to think about it. I had spent time before the appointment making sure i carefully removed every trace of old nail polish, and making sure my nails were neat and tidy. My two friends were given female attendants, and i was given a male. I didn't see this as significant until later. As we sat there in the massage chairs, gossiping and having our feet and legs massaged my view on the pedicure immediately changed. What girl doesn't enjoy getting pampered, getting massaged and walking away with a pretty set of painted nails - particularly when a male does this for you. I don't think the event would have had such an impact on me if it was a female having to play with my feet. Maybe i'll just book in for another pedi sometime soon and make someone wash my feet again... sounds kinda sick but i think i like the idea of watching someone do this to me ;)
Here's a note boys - Sunday is Valentine's Day, and even if YOU (like my husband) don't believe in all the hype, a little thought on a day like this goes a long way with the girl you love. Pedicures or manicures are a particularly fun present.
My song of the moment is All of the Dreamers by my favorite Australian band, Powderfinger... check out the video clip at YouTube:
