What Churns B-Rush's Butter....

Season 2… Season 2… Season 2….

What to write about for B-Rush’s first season 2 post…

* paces back and forth B@D’s trailer slowly, contemplating his post, noticing his oddly large collection of Dylf pictures *

Well, how about something that’s been on my mind all summer? Something that makes my muscles ache, my body groan, and my heart sing. It brings immense pleasure to my mind, body and soul. Yet, every time I mention it my wife sighs, and people at work look at me… uncomfortably.

SNOW

Bring on ski season!

Don’t get me wrong, I like summer too, but really – Calgary did have a sub-par summer this year. If it’s going to be crappy weather, at least let Ullr dump his fluffy white pow so we can flock to the mountains!

I’ve been chomping at the bit since July to get back out there. I’ve found myself hiking in the mountains, seeing a nice steep pitch, or zippy little line through trees and thinking, “hmm… I’d ski that”. Most notable, probably the hike (if you call it a hike) we did to Plain of Six Glaciers at Lake Louise this year. Got all the way up to the falls & Lower Victoria Glacier, looked down off of the ridge – at a good 60 degree pitch covered in rocks, “hmm…. I’d ski that for sure!”

Whoa, 13 minutes just disappeared while I daydreamed about skiing Victoria Glacier (yes, I AM being serious too. Somebody just came into my office and ‘woke me up’)….

I’ve even e-mailed my favorite ski shop already (early August if I remember correctly), asking him how much money I need to pack away for this years “want” purchases. Mmm… can’t wait to pull my boots out of that hot-gear bag... I’ve been planning some preseason projects too. Binding adjustments, core shot repair and ski cards are all in the works.

Those of you who ski (or board) know the excitement of pre-season. Those of you who don’t, I can’t stress enough, TRY IT. If you’ve tried it a few times, but didn’t enjoy yourself, fine – I’ll chock that up as Dylf levels of insanity, but you’re off the hook. But if you’ve never skied or boarded before, give it a try, at least once.

To live in an area where we have such a resource, such an amazing playground just in our backyard, and not go play. It’s simply a shame.

Maybe it’s the crappy weather, the work dilemma stress, or the pain of having a loved one in the hospital; but I can’t wait to get out on my skis.

Skiing, to me, is a place to turn off your mind, and just exist. The only things that matters is the amount of vertical you can handle, the snow underfoot, the mountains all around you, the people you’ve got with you. Few things compare to the freedom, peacefulness, pain, pleasure, and utter joy I get from skiing.

See you out there!

I believe at least some of the pictures B@D has are of the same "photoshoot" which Dylf's profile picture is taken from.... could be mistaken though...

Nope - no sympathy for you whatsoever. Hate snow? Move to Florida (Vancouver/Victoria don't get much snow if you want to stay in Canada).

If you've TRIED skiing/boarding and didn't like it, fine, you don't like it. I just like to encourage people to experience all Canada has to offer.
